Dear Independent Living Residents and Families,

Today, a case of COVID-19, has been diagnosed in a Townhome resident of our community. The resident is in quarantine at home.  We have notified those that were considered exposed and are following procedures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain the spread. We want to make residents, their families, and our dedicated staff aware of this situation. We cannot stress enough wear a mask, wash your hands, stay socially distanced and only go out, as necessary.

Further several residents and families from Independent Living have reached out to us asking for guidance with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday regarding travel on and off campus. Due to the cases in COVID-19 rising nationally, but more importantly locally we are strongly encouraging residents and families to NOT gather with anyone outside of their household. We understand the frustration and disappointment of not being together, we are all missing our friends and family this year.

We all still have a lot to be grateful for, one huge blessing is Laurel View Village has not been impacted like other communities we know of and we are trying hard to keep it that way. I ask each of you to seriously consider celebrating Thanksgiving safely, not only for yourself, but for everyone in our community. What we feel might be a harmless visit or get together could compromise many here. The CDC has released tips on celebrating Thanksgiving safely and they can be viewed by clicking here.

The Department of Health also released new guidance regarding travel and we would request anyone in Independent Living who travels or has visitors follow this guidance:
“By Order issued November, 17, 2020, the Wolf administration is requiring that travelers entering Pennsylvania from other countries and states, as well as Pennsylvanians who are returning home from other countries or states, have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering the Commonwealth or quarantine for 14 days upon entry into Pennsylvania. COVID-19 case counts in ALL states are now increasing significantly. This causes an increased risk of spreading COVID-19 when residents travel outside the state or visitors travel into the state. Because of this increased risk nationwide, a negative test result or quarantine for all travel from out of state is now required.”

We are also now requiring Independent Living residents to always wear a mask outside their home. If you have a medical necessary reason, that you cannot wear a mask please talk with staff, so we are aware and do no keep asking you. Otherwise, staff will be more diligent about reminding and asking residents to wear a mask, covering both your mouth and nose, again we are doing this to protect everyone!

Please remember that although we may have a few more difficult months ahead, this will not last forever. We began testing all staff again this week and will continue to communicate as those results come in. Please have a peaceful and healthy Thanksgiving. As I have told many here – I would not want to weather this storm with any other team. I am very thankful for each of you this Thanksgiving!
