History of Laurel View Village

Celebrating 25 years in 2017

2017 is an exciting time in our village. We are celebrating a significant milestone with our 25th Anniversary. Laurel View Village began with a vision in 1981 by eight local Mennonite Churches. By 1983, Allegheny Christian Ministries was formed as the nonprofit to manage the efforts. In 1992, LVV officially opened and has since significantly expanded. Come visit us in this milestone year and see why there is more to life at Laurel View Village.

Oral history adds a personal dimension to our story. Here we present an informal video interview with Bob Barrett, who grew up in this area, served in our nation’s armed forces and then accepted a position in the U.S. Dept. of the Interior in the Mine Health and Safety Administration. When Bob returned to his hometown, he was asked to help with the fledgling Laurel View Village project. We are pleased to present his recollections of how Laurel View Village came to be.
