I am writing in regard to the Brunch and Open House held at Laurel View Village, June 6th. It was very exciting to see so many new people at the Brunch and then they made a tour of the New Cambridge Place. Several two bedroom and one bedroom apts. were available for the public to see.
It has been wonderful to meet many of the new Residents. I enjoy volunteering at the Brunch's to help in anyway needed. It was very nice to see so many people I knew who were very interested in the new facility.
We do realize in any new endeavor there are always a few wrinkles that have to be worked out. If something wasn't quite right, please give us another try and hopefully we can do better.
If you haven't been to the Oakwood Restaurant or Cambridge Place. We would love to show you around. Put a smile on your face come to Cambridge Place.

Yesterday was a special day in our lives here at Laurel View Village. We celebrated the completion of the newest addition to our Village, Cambridge Place. It was a beautiful summer day for the Ribbon Cutting ceremony.
Cambridge Place houses 55, one or two bedroom, independent living apartments. The residents will have parking for their cars under the building. The building also houses the new Oakwood Restaurant where residents may have their meals. This lovely restaurant is open to the public, as well.
We are looking forward to Open House for Cambridge Place on Sunday afternoon, June 6th , from 12 – 3 PM. Several apartments have been furnished by SMS Furniture Barn for this occasion, so that we can see an apartment with furniture in it.
We welcome all of those who have already moved into Cambridge Place and hope they like living at Laurel View Village at much as those of us who already live here.

I am a fairly new resident at Vista Apartments, having moved in February, 2009. I have often said to my friends and family that Laurel View Village is a special place where wonderful things happen. I am a fairly new resident at Vista Apartments, having moved in February, 2009. I have often said to my friends and family that Laurel View Village is a special place where wonderful things happen.
I attended a magic show recently here at the Village. The young man who performed was very personable and accomplished the magic in a very professional manner. During the performance he asked the audience, " What is the question most asked to a magician?" The answer was, "How did you do that?" He said, "A magician doesn't reveal the secret of the magic."
After the performance it occurred to me that maybe that was also an answer to Laurel View Village being such a wonderful place to live. Is it coincidence that so many happy people exist, with wonderful management and a staff second to none? The beautiful country setting and the facilities and living quarters have to be among the finest for a campus such as this.
I feel we are blessed. God has made this possible. I look at all we have and I ask "How did you do that"?

We have just had this year's Volunteer Breakfast at Laurel View Village. We had a delicious breakfast and then were entertained by Gary Stuart. We enjoyed the songs of yesteryear and especially the polka. Some of our folks even joined in by dancing the polka, much to our enjoyment! (Who says "oldsters" can't have fun!)
Then awards were given in appreciation for the many hours of volunteer service. Some of the folks have given thousands of hours in service, in many different ways. Many volunteers are from our own Village, but many from the outside community. Perhaps someone reading this would like to join in this meaningful service to our Village; you can call Laurel View Village at 288-2724 and ask for the Volunteer Assistant, Maureen Sheridan. Thanks and enjoy these sunny days!

Good Morning Everyone. Just dropping in to say Hello on this rainy day in Davidsville. Was anxious to tell all of you about my day yesterday, May 10, my granddaughter, Chelsea, was visiting, and we went to the New Bistro at Laurel View, Cambridge Place.
It is very nice, the Rueben sandwich with french fries and dill pickles, that we had was delicious.
So I thought if you needed a nice place to go on this rainy day, maybe take a trip over to The Bistro. The food is excellent and there are many wonderful desserts. Relax and have a nice lunch or dinner, which ever you prefer. We had the pleasure of meeting one of our new Cambridge Place Residents, a very sweet lady. It is so nice seeing and meeting these new people coming to our Community. Put a smile on your face, come to Cambridge Place.

With all the news about volcanos in Iceland and disrupted air travel, I remembered these classic old airplane jokes. And so in the spirit of a smile for today...
A blonde gets on an airplane and sits down in the first class section of the plane. The stewardess rushes over to her and tells her she must move to coach because she doesn't have a first class ticket. The blonde replies, "I'm blonde, I'm smart, I have a good job, and I'm staying in first class until we reach Jamaica."
The disgusted stewardess gets the head stewardess who asks the blonde to leave. The blonde yet again repeats "I'm blonde, I'm smart, I have a good job and I'm staying in first class until we reach Jamaica." The head stewardesses doesn't even know what to do at this point because they still have to get the rest of the passengers seated to take off; so she gets the copilot. The copilot goes up to the blonde and whispers in her ear. She immediately gets up and goes to her seat in the coach section. The head stewardess asks the copilot in amazement what he said to get her to move to her correct seat. The copilot replies, "I told her the front half of the airplane wasn't going to Jamaica."
Then there was the time the plane had engine trouble...
"While cruising at 36,000 feet, the airplane shuddered, and a passenger looked out the window.
"Oh no!" he screamed, "One of the engines just blew up!"
Other passengers left their seats and came running over; suddenly the aircraft was rocked by a second blast as yet another engine exploded on the other side.
The passengers were in a panic now, and even the stewardesses couldn't maintain order. Just then, standing tall and smiling confidently, the pilot strode from the cockpit and assured everyone that there was nothing to worry about. His words and his confident demeanor made most of the passengers feel better, and they sat down as the pilot calmly walked to the door of the aircraft. There, he grabbed several packages from under the seats and began handing them to the flight attendants.
Each crew member attached the package to their backs.
"Say," spoke up an alert passenger, "Aren't those parachutes?"
The pilot confirmed that they were.
The passenger went on, "But I thought you said there was nothing to worry about?"
"There isn't," replied the pilot as a third engine exploded. "We're going to get help."

And now a little something to smile about:
Did you hear the one about the reporter who was interviewing a 104 year-old woman:
"And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?" the reporter asked.
She simply replied, "No peer pressure."
Anyone else have a something to share on today's blog?
Send it to gbarnes@lvv1.com or dmishler@lvv1.

Tomorrow is April 1, can you believe it? Spring is on its way. It is so wonderful to see all the snow gone. Green grass is appearing and now all the beautiful spring flowers popping up.
Wed. night is always a wonderful Bible Study with Pastor Wes, at 7:00PM for anyone who is interested.
So wonderful to go for a walk on these lovely days, still a little chilly. Here it is Easter weekend coming up and possibly up to 70 - 80 degrees... we are all ready for it. There will be the lovely Easter Dinner here, Sunday, reservations needed.
Also all our bakers have really been busy with all the delicious Baked Goods, that go out to so many stores and shops in the area. It is fun to see all that goes on around here. Such a pleasure to be a part of it all. Wish you were here. Put a Smile on Your Face come to Cambridge Place.

The sun has been shining and the snow melting! Everything seems to be moving towards spring, and the much anticipated completion to our newly finished apartments at Cambridge Place.
We are down to under a month for final completion - and there are only 2 one-bedroom apartments that include a den and one plus half bath remaining.
The selection of two bedroom apartments is greater - but if you wait too much longer, you might miss out on spacious apartment that adjoins a community center offering a restaurant, fitness center and pool!
Give us a call to talk over your retirement plans and a future of worry free living here at Laurel View Village.

What a fun time we had last evening bowling, using the Wii! There were folks from the Townhomes and the Apartments playing together. Needless to say, there was lots of laughter. Some of our men have learned to set it up, so we can do it in the evening when Jennie, our activities gal, is not here. She is having sessions at various times to let others learn how to play. They also play golf with the Wii, but since I am not a golfer, I don't try to play that.
The snow is still piled high around here. Just about the time I can see the cars outside my window, it snows and the piles get higher again. Nevertheless, our therapy pool is very available and many of us enjoy exercise in the nice warm water as we look out and see the snow piled high.
Work still progresses on Cambridge Place and we look forward to having many new folks join us in our "Village". And, of course, we are all looking forward to spring and the appearance of the crocuses and daffodils.

What do you call a cow with two legs?
- Lean beef

It keeps on snowing here at Laurel View, but our maintenance staff keeps the parking lots, driveways and roads open; they are a busy crew and do it so willingly.
This morning, as the snow came down outside, a group of us were in our therapy pool enjoying the benefits of water aerobics. The snow is piled high outside but the water was very comfortable. So, even though walking outside isn't a good idea, we can still get our exercise.
This afternoon I may go out to clean the snow from my car, even though I don't need to go anywhere. I guess it is only to make room for more snow! And tonight we can go to Bible Study, right here in our lovely Chapel, taught by our Chaplain, Pastor Wes Yoder. We are very blessed.

Hard to believe we are two days away from Valentine's Day. We began to celebrate at Laurel View Village today.
There was a Valentine Court and also the Crowning of the Valentine King, Craig Robertson, and the Valentine Queen, Louise Wise. The Nice and Easy Jazz Band from Johnstown and also Charolette Aubrey were the Entertainment. The monies collected for this occasion and several other different projects will be contributed to the American Heart Association. What a worthy cause!
It was one of the many nice
occasions we enjoy here at Laurel View Village. A fun time was had by all. Many thanks to Christine and the entire Staff for all their work and preparation.

Since we are all stuck inside these cold days, how about some levity:
Q: What do you call a cow with no legs?
A: ...Ground beef
I know, it's a little lame... (get the pun?) ...Maybe this joke will make you smile:
Preacher asked: "Now just how many wives should a man have?"
Kid at Sunday School replied: "Sixteen.""
"What?" said the Preacher.
Kid: "Four Better, Four Worse, Four Richer, Four Poorer..."

We had a January thaw and now we sure are having a February freeze. As we all have seen, we have had some real accumulation of snow. Our Maintenace Crews out here at Laurel View have been working day and night... Also, so wonderful of them to clean off the cars of those who could use some help.
Today my day started with a wonderful hearty breakfast up in our Dining Room. I then rushed down to my apartment to get dressed for Water Aerobics. It thrills me to be in the warm water doing WA when it is blustering outside and such huge piles of snow.
After a nice 45 minute workout, back to my apartment for a nice warm shower. Then some time to relax and read. Now after lunch, I just came down from our Vista Room where our Monthly Resident Council Meeting was held, with a very nice attendance.
In a couple hours I'll go up to our Vista Dining Room for dinner.....
I would say I have had a wonderful day in a beautiful facility, and I hope to see you here at our Cambridge Place one of these days.
Put a smile on your face, come to Cambridge Place.

"Oh the weather outside is frightful" but it is nice and warm here in my comfortable apartment at Laurel View Village! It is a blessing to be here and have no need to go out.
It will be five years on Friday since we moved here (The weather that year was not so cold and snowy.), and it was the best move we ever made! Later today I just need to go upstairs and will be able to have a delicious meal in our attractive dining room. We are blessed!

With a little break on the snow action, and a January thaw that should serve the water table well (no pun intended), I just want to say a big Thank You to all residents and staff for a great season of celebration just past.
We look forward to a new 2010 with great anticipation. Cambridge Place remains on a timetable to be ready for occupancy by mid-April. The economy seems to be turning for the better, ever so slowly. Given the level of interest shown in Cambridge Place since November, we expect Cambridge Place to be fully occupied in the not too distant future.
Laurel View Village is having a strong year, and we especially thank everyone who helped to make our Christmas Fund drive to build The Caring Fund endowment, the most successful ever! We look forward to our growing community serving and sharing in the lives of all who have chosen to make Laurel View Village home.

"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop."
-Mother Teresa
With that thought in mind, I am adding a few drops of thankfulness. I may have been one of the first to realize that the Blog had finally arrived at LVV because I regularly check for updates!
My husband and I are looking forward to joining the LVV family in May, and have been following the progress of 'our apartment' via of the excellent Cambridge Place slideshow. With the new zoom feature we even looked to see whether anyone was sitting on our balcony! Well... in a few months, Lord willing, there we will be!
We want to thank all who have contributed to this web site. We have looked and listened to ALL of it! Also, we want to thank Robin Yoder, and all the rest, who have patiently guided and supported us throughout the decision making process.
Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and blessed New Year...
